Health Risk Assessments
Structured Identification of Workplace Health Risks
Our Health Risk Assessments help identify, evaluate, and manage workplace exposures that may impact worker health. Using a structured risk-based approach, we assess potential hazards and provide practical recommendations to reduce exposure and improve workplace health outcomes.

Our Health Risk Assessments
Qualitative Risk Assessments
A qualitative assessment is typically the first step in evaluating workplace health risks. It involves reviewing work processes, exposure sources, existing controls, and worker tasks to estimate the level of risk without personal exposure monitoring. It may involve taking some measurements with direct reading instruments (semi-quantitative approach).
Â
This approach helps identify where risks are well-controlled, where improvements may be required, and whether further investigation is necessary.
Quantitative Exposure Assessments
Where a qualitative assessment identifies uncertainty, elevated risk, regulatory requirements (PES), or the need to verify control effectiveness, quantitative exposure monitoring may be undertaken.
Quantitative assessments involve collecting and analysing personal exposure data to determine actual worker exposure levels and compare them against relevant workplace exposure standards. This typically involves multiple samples to allow for statistical analysis, probability, and improved confidence reporting.Â
Risk-Based Approach
Best practice is to begin with a qualitative assessment. In many cases, this can provide sufficient information to identify and address workplace health risks without the need for personal exposure monitoring.
Where risks are identified as high, priority should be given to implementing effective controls rather than simply measuring the exposure. Conversely, where risks are assessed as low and adequately controlled, additional monitoring may not be required. Quantitative monitoring is typically reserved for situations where exposure levels need to be confirmed, controls need to be validated, risks cannot be confidently assessed through qualitative methods alone, or data is needed to support capital investment in engineering controls.
Personal Exposure Monitoring
Targeted monitoring programs to measure worker exposure to airborne contaminants, noise, or other substances hazardous to health.
Control Recommendations
Practical and prioritised recommendations to eliminate, reduce, or manage identified workplace health risks.
Why This Matters
Clear risk prioritisation supports better decision-making and more effective control strategies.
